SON—023: BOHO

"BOHO" follows the ups and downs of Kima, her sister Nawal, and their friend Alex, three thirty-somethings from Borgerhout, each at a crossroads in life, identity, and ambition. Kima, a chaotic creative, loses her job and decides to go all in on making a film. But her dreams constantly clash with her critical mother’s expectations. Fortunately, she has her sister Nawal and friend Alex by her side, helping her search for happiness, joy, and what she truly wants.

The original score of “BOHO” is composed by singer and musician Lara Chedraoui, best known as the frontwoman of Intergalactic Lovers, and producer and musician Patrick Van Neck. They are supported in this by their partner-in-crime Mounir Hathout from Sonhouse. Both Lara and Patrick lived in Borgerhout for many years and immediately understood the flow and tempo of the series and its characters.

For both of them, this is the first time they are responsible for creating a full original score, although they previously collaborated on the soundtrack for Roomies, the series that won the Ensor for Best Music in 2023.

“BOHO is a kind of ode to the search in life tout court. It’s a beautiful, crazy dance between the here and now and the there and then, where old and new traditions intersect. So the soundtrack of life in and around the Turnhoutsebaan has to be eclectic and warm—it has to sparkle and sometimes rub against the grain.”
— Lara Chedraoui & Patrick Van Neck

In addition to the music by Chedraoui and Van Neck, other local voices can also be heard on the original score: Belgian-Syrian rapper Nephtys and producer, composer, and DJ Cheb Runner.
